Before making a big purchase, people like to check discounts online. Their obvious next step is to google “[Company] discount/coupon codes

And when they do, they land on coupon websites where most often, the coupons don’t really apply - they are either expired or fake. Terribly bad experience!

Create your own “secret” code page and become the hero to your customers.

I first learned about this hack in one of Tom Orbach’s Newsletter where he shared an example of Provesource’s secret discount page

Tom shared that this works wonderfully for Provesource and after finding this page, the time-of-purchase is almost immediate.

Here’s another example from Myntra and Toyota

There’s something else that these pages do (which is really clever!).

Myntra is known for having a sale almost all the time. People who start their purchase journey from Myntra discount search might miss out on a bigger deal directly on their website - improving AOV.

Why it works?

😼 Inner remarkability: People feel like they have discovered something exclusive. It makes them feel smart and excited.

📈 Extra push for the fence-sitters: Some customers need an extra push to make that decision. They check multiple websites, and multiple options before arriving at their final decision. Discount coupons (packaged in a secret) nudge them to convert.

➕ Additional organic traffic: Google would obviously prioritize the company’s discount page. Meaning, you control the narrative on discounts and bring extra traffic.
